Seven-year-old girl jumps out of vehicle to escape carjacker

KUALA LUMPUR: A seven-year-old girl bravely jumped out of a vehicle to escape from a carjacker at AU3 in Keramat here on Monday.

In the 12.30pm incident, the girl's father had left her in his Mitsubishi Triton with the engine running, near a workshop, before a man tried to hijack the vehicle.The girl's father tried to stop the man from leaving the area with his vehicle and daughter, but was unsuccessful.

The girl was found about 700 metres from the location the vehicle was stolen. He told Bernama that the man who was tall and thin, was believed to be a local, aged in his 30s and wearing a red striped t-shirt.

Meanwhile, crime analyst Datuk Akhbar Satar reminded parents not to be complacent in looking after their children to prevent crimes from happening.

"Crimes happen because there is an opportunity for criminals...for as long as parents are complacent about their children's safety, incidences such as this will continue to happen even though the media continues to highlight these cases," he said.
